New Shared-Use Paths in St. John's - Airport Heights, Columbus Drive, and Portugal Cove Road
Official title: Shared Use Paths 2023
Why This Matters
Live in St. John's and bike or walk? These paths could make your commute safer. Right now, cyclists often share busy roads with cars. The new routes would connect neighbourhoods to parks and community centres without dodging traffic.
What Could Change
Two shared-use paths are now under construction. A third route through Penney Crescent is in final design after residents were consulted on alignment options. Once complete, the city's cycling network will have new protected connections across several neighbourhoods.
Key Issues
- Which route alignment should the Penney Crescent section of the path follow?
- How can the paths best connect neighbourhoods to parks and community centres?
How to Participate
- Review the What We Heard report to see feedback from the 2023 consultation.
- If you live on Penney Crescent, Stirling Crescent, Prim Place, Slade Place, or Jackson Place, complete the neighbourhood survey using the code from your letter.
- Email engage@stjohns.ca with questions or feedback.
What Happened
The main consultation closed in August 2023. A What We Heard document was released on August 22, 2023 and presented to Council. Recommendations were approved, and two projects are now under construction. A follow-up consultation with Penney Crescent area residents took place in late 2023 regarding route alignment options.
