Help Shape Coquitlam's First Accessibility and Inclusion Plan

Official title: Accessibility and Inclusion Plan

Closed Policy & Studies Housing & Communities Justice & Rights
Coquitlam is creating its first Accessibility and Inclusion Plan to make city services, spaces, and information more welcoming for everyone. The active engagement phase has ended, and staff are now drafting the plan based on community feedback. A draft will go to Council in early 2026.

Why This Matters

Have a disability? Use a wheelchair or mobility aid? This plan will shape how easy it is to access city buildings, parks, and services. It also affects how the city communicates—think clearer signage, accessible websites, and inclusive programs.

What Could Change

The City could adopt new standards for accessible building design, website accessibility, and service delivery. Staff training on inclusion may become mandatory. The plan will guide how Coquitlam prioritizes accessibility improvements across all departments.

Key Issues

  • How can city services and spaces be made more accessible?
  • What barriers to access and inclusion exist in Coquitlam?
  • How should the City incorporate equity, diversity and inclusion in its policies?

How to Participate

  1. Sign up to receive updates on this project by clicking the Follow button on the consultation page.
  2. Contact the City's EDI team at edi@coquitlam.ca with questions or feedback.

What Happened

The active engagement phase concluded in April 2025. City staff presented what they heard from the community to Council on April 28. Staff are now drafting the Accessibility and Inclusion Plan based on community input, Council direction, and best practices. The draft plan will be presented to Council for feedback in early 2026.
