Design Selected for Calgary's Indian Residential School Memorial
Official title: Indian Residential School Memorial Project
Calgary has selected a design for a permanent memorial honouring Indian Residential School survivors. The Wandering Spirit, by groundcubed and Adrian Stimson, was chosen by an Indigenous-led jury. The memorial will be built at The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland. The city is now confirming all feedback before moving into detailed design.
Why This Matters
This memorial responds to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Call to Action #82. It will create a permanent space for survivors, families, and all Calgarians to reflect, remember, and heal. If you're a survivor, family member, or community member who participated in earlier phases, this is your chance to confirm nothing was missed.
What Could Change
The Wandering Spirit design will be developed into detailed construction plans. The memorial will be built at The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland. This fulfills Calgary's commitment to Truth and Reconciliation Call to Action #82.
