Multi-Use Trail Extension for Snaw-Naw-As First Nation Waterfront Access
Official title: Snaw-Naw-As Multi Use Trail (Phase 2) for Nanoose First Nation, BC
The Nanoose First Nation wants to build a 295-metre asphalt pathway connecting their community's waterfront to Snaw-Naw-As Road. The trail would link residential areas, a campground, and playground to the waterfront, plus connect to the Market and employment centre along Island Highway. The project includes new lighting, benches, bike racks, and tree planting on federal land.
Why This Matters
This is a local infrastructure project for the Snaw-Naw-As First Nation community. If you're a member of the Nation or live nearby, this trail could improve how you get around. The pathway would make it easier to walk or bike between homes, the waterfront, and local businesses.
What Could Change
If approved, about 1,560 square metres of land will be excavated for the pathway. New amenities like lighting, benches, and bike storage will be installed. Trees and greenery will be planted along the route.
Key Issues
- Environmental impacts of excavating 1,560 m² on federal land
- Trail design and amenities for community use
