Anti-Racism Engagement: Shaping Alberta's Response to Racism
Official title: Anti-racism engagement
Why This Matters
Ever faced discrimination at work, school, or accessing government services? This engagement shaped how Alberta addresses systemic racism. Indigenous Peoples and racialized Albertans shared their lived experiences to influence real policy changes.
What Could Change
The feedback is shaping updates to Alberta's Anti-Racism Action Plan. New measures could protect vulnerable groups from hate and discrimination, remove barriers to government programs, and improve access to services for all Albertans.
Key Issues
- How can government protect vulnerable groups from hate and discrimination?
- What systemic barriers prevent equal access to government programs?
- How can communities be empowered to promote inclusion and diversity?
What Happened
Albertans completed an online survey between September 22 and November 10, 2022. Stakeholder discussions were held between September 2022 and January 2023. Government met with Chiefs in Treaty 6, 7, and 8, as well as Métis leadership to gather Indigenous perspectives. The input is informing updates to Alberta's Anti-Racism Action Plan.
