Sewage System Upgrades for Red Earth Cree Nation
Official title: Red Earth Sewage Pumping Station Upgrades
Red Earth Cree Nation wants to upgrade its sewage pumping stations to support new housing developments. The project includes building enclosures over existing pump stations, replacing one station entirely, and installing over 10 kilometres of new sewage pipes. Construction waste will be disposed of at off-reserve facilities.
Why This Matters
This project directly affects Red Earth Cree Nation community members. Better sewage infrastructure means the community can build more homes. It's a basic but essential upgrade for a growing First Nation.
What Could Change
If approved, construction would upgrade four pumping stations and add 10.3 km of sewage lines. This enables new residential subdivisions to be built on the reserve. The old SPS 3 building would be decommissioned.
Key Issues
- Environmental impacts of construction and site preparation
- Waste disposal at off-reserve facilities
