Runway and Parking Lot Repairs at Îles-de-la-Madeleine Airport

Official title: Runway 16-34 (secondary) Overlay, Parking lot and Visual Aids Rehabilitation at Îles-de-la-Madeleine Airport

Closed Environmental Assessment Transportation
Transport Canada is rehabilitating the secondary runway, parking lot, and lighting systems at the Îles-de-la-Madeleine Airport. The asphalt has exceeded its useful life and shows aging that could compromise safe operations. Work is planned for 2025-2027.

Why This Matters

Live on the Magdalen Islands or planning to visit? This is your only airport. The runway repairs will keep flights safe and reliable for the 12,000 residents who depend on air travel to reach the mainland.

What Could Change

The secondary runway will be resurfaced and all runway lighting systems replaced to meet TP312 safety standards. The public parking lot will also be repaved. Construction will occur between 2025 and 2027, which may cause temporary disruptions.

Key Issues

  • Environmental impacts of runway resurfacing and construction activities
  • Replacement of visual aids and approach lighting systems
