Wastewater Lagoon Expansion for Poundmaker Cree Nation

Official title: Poundmaker Cree Nation Lagoon Upgrades

Closed Environmental Assessment Environment & Climate Indigenous & Northern
Poundmaker Cree Nation wants to upgrade its wastewater system by building a larger treatment lagoon. The project includes a new 3.67-hectare treatment cell, a storage cell, and a new access road. The old two-cell lagoon will be decommissioned.

Why This Matters

This is essential infrastructure for the Poundmaker Cree Nation community. Better wastewater treatment protects local water quality and supports community growth. If you live nearby or care about First Nations infrastructure, this matters.

What Could Change

The community's wastewater capacity will more than double. Seasonal effluent releases will continue but must meet Saskatchewan standards. The old lagoon will be shut down and the site restored.

Key Issues

  • Will the expanded lagoon meet Saskatchewan effluent quality standards?
  • How will construction activities minimize environmental impacts on farmland and water sources?
