Help Mississauga Set Stronger Climate Targets

Official title: Updating the Climate Change Action Plan

Closed Policy & Studies Environment & Climate
Mississauga is updating its Climate Change Action Plan to set more ambitious targets. The city wants to align with global recommendations to limit warming to 1.5°C. The current plan aims to cut emissions 40% by 2030 and 80% by 2050. This update will identify new priority actions and what's needed to make them happen.

Why This Matters

Live in Mississauga? This plan shapes how your city tackles climate change for the next decade. It affects everything from how buildings are heated to how you get around. Extreme weather events are becoming more common. This plan determines how prepared your community will be.

What Could Change

The city could set stricter emission reduction targets beyond the current 40% by 2030 goal. New actions may require changes to building codes, transit investments, or green infrastructure requirements. The updated plan will outline specific implementation steps and partnerships needed to hit these targets.

Key Issues

  • What should be the priority actions for reducing emissions?
  • What resources and partnerships are needed to implement climate actions?
  • What barriers exist to climate action and how can they be overcome?

How to Participate

What Happened

The city collected input through Climate Lab 2 (an online platform), eight pop-up events at community centres and libraries across Mississauga, and a Community Dialogue Series with two workshops on scenario building and implementation barriers. The team is now analyzing the data to identify priority actions and implementation steps.
