High-Speed Internet Expansion for Northern Saskatchewan First Nations

Official title: Upgrade Single Tower & New Fibre Installation

Closed Regulations & Permits Indigenous & Northern Technology & Digital
SaskTel wants to bring high-speed internet to ten remote communities in northern Saskatchewan, including several First Nations. The project involves upgrading two existing cell towers and installing 202 km of fibre optic cable along Highway 905 to Stony Rapids.

Why This Matters

Live in one of these northern communities? You could finally get reliable high-speed internet at home. Right now, many of these areas have limited connectivity. This project would connect homes in Lac La Ronge, Stony Rapids, and eight First Nations communities.

What Could Change

If approved, SaskTel would add antennas to existing towers at Deer Ridge and Sturgeon Lake First Nation. Underground and aerial fibre cables would be installed along Highway 905, connecting homes and businesses in ten communities to high-speed internet.

Key Issues

  • Should antenna upgrades be approved for the existing towers?
  • Is the proposed fibre installation route appropriate?
