Cahill Park Redesign - Dry Pond for Flood Control
Official title: Cahill Park Redesign
Why This Matters
Live near Cahill Park or use it regularly? The park will be closed from February 2026 until fall 2027. The ball diamond is going away permanently. If you've had water in your basement during storms, this project could finally fix that. About 10 homes near 21st and Avenue W have flooded repeatedly.
What Could Change
A 3,700 cubic metre dry pond will be built to store stormwater during heavy rain. The ball diamond will be replaced with a multi-purpose field. About 8 trees will be removed and replaced. No permanent fence around the pond—just warning signs. Construction runs February to October 2026, with landscaping until fall 2027.
Key Issues
- What alternative recreational uses should replace the ball diamond?
- How should the park design address safety and crime prevention?
- What concerns do residents have about the dry pond design?
