Natural Gas Pipeline Installation at CFB Suffield

Official title: New Natural Gas Service Line - Canadian Forces Base Suffield

Closed Environmental Assessment Natural Resources
The Department of National Defence wants to install 1.2 km of underground natural gas pipeline on federal land at Canadian Forces Base Suffield in Alberta. The pipeline is part of a larger project by Forty Mile Gas Co-op to bring gas service north of Ralston village.

Why This Matters

Live near CFB Suffield or Ralston? This pipeline will run through federal land in your area. The project is small—just over a kilometre—but it's part of expanding natural gas service to the region.

What Could Change

If approved, a 6-inch polyethylene pipeline will be buried on federal land. Forty Mile Gas Co-op will own and operate it. Natural gas service could expand to areas north of Ralston.

Key Issues

  • Should DND allow a private gas co-op to install pipeline on federal military land?
  • What environmental impacts might the 1.2 km pipeline have on CFB Suffield lands?
