New Trail and Parking Lot at Prince Edward Point Wildlife Area

Official title: Trail and Parking Lot Construction - Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area

Closed Environmental Assessment Environment & Climate
Environment Canada wants to build 475 metres of new trails and a small parking lot at Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area near Milford, Ontario. Why? The site became a 'Connecting Canadians to Nature' destination, and visitor numbers have spiked. Without proper trails, people are wandering off and creating their own paths through the wildlife area.

Why This Matters

Visit Prince Edward Point for birdwatching or hiking? This project would give you proper trails and parking instead of walking along the road. It also protects wildlife habitat by keeping visitors on designated paths.

What Could Change

Construction would happen between November 2025 and March 2026 to avoid disturbing species at risk. The new 800 square metre parking lot and connector trails would channel visitors away from the municipal road and reduce unauthorized trail creation.

Key Issues

  • Should new trails and parking be built in this National Wildlife Area?
  • Are the proposed wildlife protection measures adequate during construction?
  • Will the project effectively manage increased visitor traffic?
