Alberta 2030: Building Skills for Jobs - Post-Secondary Education Strategy

Official title: Alberta 2030: Building Skills for Jobs engagement

Closed Policy & Studies Economy & Jobs Education
Alberta developed a 10-year strategy to transform its post-secondary education system. The goal? Make sure students graduate with skills employers actually need. The province consulted students, faculty, employers, and the public to shape the plan.

Why This Matters

Planning to study in Alberta? This shapes what programs are available and how easy it is to transfer credits between schools. Parents and students should care about whether graduates can actually find jobs. Employers get a say in what skills colleges and universities teach.

What Could Change

The strategy aims to make credit transfers easier between Alberta institutions. It also pushes schools to work more closely with employers on curriculum and co-op placements. Institutions may need to find new revenue sources beyond government funding.

Key Issues

  • How can post-secondary education better prepare students for changing job markets?
  • How can credit transfers between institutions be improved?
  • How should employers and institutions collaborate on curriculum and work placements?
  • How can institutions become more financially sustainable?

How to Participate

  1. This consultation is now complete. Review the Alberta 2030: Building Skills for Jobs 10-year strategy to see the outcomes.

What Happened

The engagement gathered extensive input: 5,693 survey responses, 201 workbook submissions, 115+ stakeholder interviews, 31 roundtables, and 6 telephone town halls with 1,491 attendees. This feedback shaped the Alberta 2030 strategy, which is now being implemented.
