Pole Line Relocation for Merivale Transformer Station Expansion - Crestview Corridor

Official title: Merivale Transformer Station Relocations at 31 Woodfield Dr in Ottawa

Closed Regulations & Permits Housing & Communities Natural Resources
Hydro Ottawa needs to move some power lines underground in Ottawa's Crestview greenspace. Why? Hydro One is expanding the Merivale Transformer Station, which supplies 60% of Ottawa's electricity. The work involves installing new poles, digging trenches, and removing some shrubs along the corridor.

Why This Matters

Live near the Crestview corridor or use it for walks? You'll see construction from May to September 2025. The work supports Ottawa's growing electricity needs as new homes and businesses are built. Some shrubs will be removed, but the area will be restored with grass afterward.

What Could Change

If approved, Hydro Ottawa can install eight new poles and 280 metres of underground infrastructure in the Crestview greenspace. Construction would run May through September 2025. The greenspace will be temporarily disrupted but restored afterward.

Key Issues

  • Should the pole line relocation be approved on National Capital Commission lands?
  • Are the environmental mitigation measures adequate for the greenspace?
