Closed Policy & Studies Health & Safety Justice & Rights
Alberta created Canada's first dedicated advocate for people with disabilities. In 2018, the government asked Albertans to help shape what this new advocate should prioritize. Over 1,300 people shared their views on the role's responsibilities and first-year focus areas.

Why This Matters

Do you or someone you love live with a disability? This advocate exists to represent your rights and help resolve issues. The priorities set here shaped how Alberta supports people with disabilities and their families.

What Could Change

Tony Flores became Alberta's first Advocate for Persons with Disabilities. The advocate now raises awareness of rights and services, resolves issues, and promotes inclusion. Annual reports to the Minister of Community and Social Services are required.
