New Military Hangar at CFB Trenton - Environmental Assessment
Official title: Strategic Tanker Transport Capability Project Support Infrastructure - Phase 1: Construction of a Two-bay Hangar - 8 Wing Trenton
The Department of National Defence wants to build a large two-bay aircraft hangar at CFB Trenton in Ontario. The project will convert part of an existing golf course into a 25,000 m² facility with aircraft parking, maintenance bays, and support buildings. This is Phase 1 of a larger project to support Canada's new strategic tanker aircraft fleet.
Why This Matters
Live near CFB Trenton? This construction project will change the landscape around the base. A golf course will become a military facility. There'll be increased construction traffic and activity for several years. The project also affects local roads and utilities.
What Could Change
If approved, construction would clear trees and vegetation from the site, including the golf course. North Perimeter Road would be rerouted. New stormwater management systems would be installed. The facility is designed to last 50 years.
Key Issues
- Environmental impacts of clearing trees and vegetation from the site
- Effects on stormwater management and local utilities
- Conversion of golf course land to military infrastructure
