Where Should Richmond Install New EV Fast Chargers?

Official title: Electric Vehicle Charging Expansion 2025

Closed Community Planning Environment & Climate Transportation
Richmond is adding 24-30 fast chargers at three community centres: the Curling Centre, Minoru Park, and South Arm Community Centre. The city wants your input on charger placement and parking layout. Some regular parking spots will become EV charging stations.

Why This Matters

Drive an EV in Richmond? These fast chargers could cut your charging time to under an hour. Live in an apartment without home charging? Public chargers like these are your lifeline. Even if you drive gas, some parking spots at these community centres will become EV-only.

What Could Change

Three community centres will get dedicated EV charging hubs with 1.5 MW transformers. Regular parking spots will be converted to charging stations. Future phases could add chargers at six more locations including the new Steveston Community Centre.

Key Issues

  • Where should chargers be placed at each site?
  • How should parking be reconfigured for EV charging?
  • What accessibility features are needed at charging stations?
