Wellington Gateway Rapid Transit Project - London

Official title: Wellington Gateway (Rapid Transit)

Closed Community Planning Housing & Communities Transportation
London is building dedicated bus lanes along 6 km of Wellington Road between downtown and Highway 401. The project adds rapid transit stops, multi-use paths, and upgrades aging infrastructure. Phase 2 construction starts in 2026, with the full corridor expected to be complete by 2027.

Why This Matters

Take the bus on Wellington Road? Your commute could get faster and more reliable. Live or work along the corridor? Expect construction disruptions through 2027, but also better sidewalks and cycling paths. Business owners may need to adjust how deliveries and customer access work.

What Could Change

Centre-running bus lanes will replace regular traffic lanes on Wellington Road. Left turns will only be allowed at traffic lights. Driveways and side streets become right-in/right-out only. New transit stops at Bond Street, Baseline Road East, and Commissioners Road East will be built.

Key Issues

  • How will the Phase 2 design affect access to businesses and residences along Wellington Road?
  • What traffic and construction impacts should residents expect during 2026-2028?
  • Are the proposed transit stop locations and multi-use path designs appropriate?
