Union Street East Reconstruction - Waterloo

Official title: Union Street East reconstruction

Open Community Planning Housing & Communities Transportation
The City of Waterloo is rebuilding Union Street East between King Street South and Moore Avenue South. The project replaces aging watermains, sewers, sidewalks, curbs, and asphalt. Water and sewer connections to properties will also be replaced up to the property line.

Why This Matters

Live on or near Union Street East? Your street will be under construction for two years. Expect detours, noise, and temporary service disruptions. The upside? New pipes mean fewer water main breaks and better drainage for years to come.

What Could Change

Construction will happen in two phases: April to November 2026, then April to November 2027. Some properties may need to give up small strips of land for the new road design. Third-party utilities like gas and hydro are being relocated now.

Key Issues

  • How will construction phases affect access to homes and businesses?
  • What property acquisitions are needed for the new road design?
  • How will utility relocations be coordinated with construction?
