Sunningdale Road Widening and Medway Creek Bridge Replacement
Official title: Sunningdale Road Widening
London is widening Sunningdale Road from two lanes to four between Wonderland Road and Villagewalk Boulevard. The project includes replacing the Medway Creek Bridge, adding cycle tracks and sidewalks on both sides, and upgrading water and sewer infrastructure. Construction starts spring 2026 and runs through 2027.
Why This Matters
Drive, bike, or walk on Sunningdale Road? Expect major detours for two years. The Medway Creek Bridge will be closed during construction. Live nearby? Construction noise and traffic changes are coming. The upside: better cycling infrastructure and a wider, safer road when it's done.
What Could Change
Sunningdale Road doubles from 2 to 4 lanes with new turn lanes and medians. Cycle tracks and sidewalks get added on both sides. The Meadowlands Way intersection gets full traffic signals. New storm and sanitary sewers go in, along with watermain replacement.
Key Issues
- How will traffic be managed during the two-year construction period?
- What are the impacts of the Medway Creek Bridge closure on local residents?
- How will the new cycling and pedestrian infrastructure connect to existing routes?
