Summit Park Redesign in Kelowna's Dilworth Neighbourhood

Official title: Summit Park and Reservoir

Closed Community Planning Housing & Communities
Kelowna is redesigning Summit Park after expanding the water reservoir underneath it. The reservoir expansion is done, and now the city wants to restore the park above. Construction wrapped up on the new reservoir cell, and park restoration should open to the public by early summer 2025.

Why This Matters

Live near Dilworth Mountain? This park is your neighbourhood green space. Parents have already raised concerns about playground accessibility and safe crosswalks for kids. If you use this park or walk by it, the final design will affect your daily life.

What Could Change

The park will get new landscaping, playground equipment, and pathways. A slope on the east side of the reservoir is being designed for kids to climb and slide. The city is considering feedback about making surfaces more accessible and preserving natural views for adjacent homeowners.

Key Issues

  • What playground surface materials should be used for accessibility?
  • How can the park design preserve natural views for nearby residents?
  • What safety features are needed, like crosswalks on Summit Drive?

How to Participate

  1. Review the Summit Park drawings and images to see the proposed design.
  2. Read the Summit Reservoir & Park Engagement Report to see what residents have already said.
  3. Contact the city at ccommunications@kelowna.ca or call (250) 469-8829 with questions or feedback.

What Happened

The city gathered feedback through an online survey and an in-person walkshop held on March 7, 2024. The survey ran from March 7-21, 2024. Residents raised concerns about playground accessibility, crosswalk safety on Summit Drive, and preserving natural views. The city confirmed they will select slope materials suitable for sliding and aim to maintain a natural look where possible.
