Should Trussler Road Be Widened to Four Lanes?

Official title: Trussler Road

Closed Community Planning Housing & Communities Transportation
The Region of Waterloo wants to widen Trussler Road from two to four lanes between Bleams Road and Highway 7/8. The project would also add cycling and walking paths. Construction is planned for 2027-2029, with a budget of $12.58 million.

Why This Matters

Drive on Trussler Road in Kitchener or Wilmot? This project will affect your commute for years. Wider roads can mean faster traffic—but also more noise for nearby homes. The new cycling paths could make biking safer in the area.

What Could Change

Trussler Road would double in size from two to four lanes. New sidewalks and bike lanes would be added. Some properties may need to be acquired for the widening. The Highway 7/8 interchange is also being upgraded by the province.

Key Issues

  • Which road widening design should be chosen?
  • What active transportation facilities (bike lanes, sidewalks) should be included?
