Should Cambridge Change Its Fireworks Rules?
Official title: Fireworks By-law Review
Cambridge is reviewing its 20-year-old fireworks by-law. Right now, you can only set off fireworks on Victoria Day, Canada Day, and Diwali without a permit. The city wants to know if these rules still work for the community.
Why This Matters
Love setting off fireworks to celebrate? This affects when you can do it legally. Have pets or PTSD that make fireworks stressful? Your input could shape stricter rules. Live in Cambridge? These rules affect your neighbourhood's noise and safety.
What Could Change
The city could expand or restrict the days when fireworks are allowed without a permit. New rules might address noise complaints, safety concerns, or accessibility for celebrations. A recommendation report goes to council in June 2025.
Key Issues
- Does the current by-law adequately address community concerns?
- What types of fireworks regulations does the community want?
- Should the permitted days for fireworks be changed?
How to Participate
- The survey is now closed. The city held four open houses in February, March, and May 2024 to gather community input.
- Review the Interim Fireworks By-law Update Report and Council Presentation to see what was discussed.
