Schaefer Street Reconstruction - Weber Street to Cul-de-sac

Official title: Schaefer Street Reconstruction

Closed Community Planning Housing & Communities Transportation
The City of Waterloo is rebuilding Schaefer Street from Weber Street to the cul-de-sac. The project includes replacing underground pipes for sewage, stormwater, and drinking water, plus a full road rebuild with new sidewalks and curbs. Construction was planned to start spring 2023 and finish by late 2023.

Why This Matters

Live on Schaefer Street or nearby? Expect road closures, detours, and construction noise. The upside: new pipes mean fewer water main breaks and better drainage. New sidewalks make walking safer.

What Could Change

Once complete, Schaefer Street will have entirely new underground infrastructure and road surface. The new sidewalks and curbs will change how the street looks and functions. Traffic patterns may shift during and after construction.

Key Issues

  • How will construction affect access to homes and businesses on Schaefer Street?
  • What is the timeline for different phases of the reconstruction?

How to Participate
