Queen's Bridge Rehabilitation and Widening in London
Official title: Queen's Bridge Rehabilitation
London is rebuilding the Queen's Bridge over the Thames River in 2026. The 1973 bridge is in poor condition with cracking concrete. Beyond repairs, the city is widening it for future rapid transit and adding a safer multi-use path for cyclists and pedestrians.
Why This Matters
Cross this bridge daily? Expect detours and delays during 2026 construction. The good news: a wider, safer path for walking and biking is coming. The bridge also feeds into future rapid transit plans that could change how you commute downtown.
What Could Change
The bridge deck will be completely replaced, and the structure widened to accommodate future rapid transit lanes. A new multi-use path will be built on the north side, plus a new pedestrian crossing spanning Queens Avenue and Riverside Drive. Shoreline protection and retaining walls will also be rebuilt for better flood resilience.
Key Issues
- How will construction impact daily commuters and local traffic?
- What improvements are needed for pedestrian and cyclist safety?
- How should shoreline work be coordinated with other downtown projects?
