Protected Bike Lanes on Provencher Boulevard - St. Boniface to Downtown
Official title: St. Boniface to Downtown Walk Bike Project
Why This Matters
Cycle or walk in St. Boniface? This project could make your commute safer and more comfortable. Protected bike lanes mean you wouldn't have to share the road with cars on Provencher. It would also connect to the Southeast Corridor and Taché Promenade—making it easier to get around without a car.
What Could Change
Protected bike lanes could be built on Provencher Boulevard connecting Archibald Street to the Esplanade Riel. The project will go to the Standing Policy Committee on Public Works in fall 2025. If approved and funded through the Pedestrian and Cycling Program, construction could follow—but that depends on budget priorities.
Key Issues
- What route should protected bike lanes take between the Esplanade Riel and Archibald Street?
- How can the design accommodate cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers of all ages and abilities?
- Should this project be prioritized for funding through the Pedestrian and Cycling Program?
How to Participate
- Review the Phase 3 Public Engagement Report to see what feedback was collected and how it shaped the design.
- View the updated design from June 2025 to see the proposed protected bike lanes on Provencher Boulevard.
What Happened
Phase 3 of public engagement is complete. Over the project's three phases (2020-2023), the city received over 390 online surveys, 88 map pins, and feedback from open houses and walking tours. The feedback helped refine the design for protected bike lanes on Provencher Boulevard. The project will be included in a report to the Standing Policy Committee on Public Works in fall 2025, but there is currently no funding to build it.
