New Sidewalks for Edward Street and Preston Parkway in Cambridge
Official title: Edward Street and Preston Parkway Sidewalk Design
Cambridge wants to build new sidewalks on two streets to fill gaps in the walking network. Edward Street (between Jardine and Strathcona) and Preston Parkway (between Woods Lane and Fountain Street South) would get connected sidewalks. Construction was planned for fall 2024.
Why This Matters
Walk along Edward Street or Preston Parkway? Right now there are gaps where sidewalks just end. This project would make it safer to walk, especially for kids heading to school or seniors with mobility aids. If you live on these streets, construction will affect your neighbourhood.
What Could Change
New concrete sidewalks would be built on both streets, connecting existing segments. The 30% design plans show the proposed layout. Construction was scheduled for fall 2024, which may have already occurred.
