New Pathways and Bikeways for Northeast Calgary Communities

Official title: Ward 5 Connections

Open Community Planning Housing & Communities Transportation
Calgary is building new pathways and bike routes in five northeast communities: Falconridge, Taradale, Martindale, Saddle Ridge, and Castleridge. Why here? This area has one of the highest concentrations of schools in the city, plus higher-than-average collision rates. The designs are now finalized after two rounds of public input, with construction starting in 2026.

Why This Matters

Got kids walking to school in northeast Calgary? These new routes aim to make their trip safer. The area has seen more injury collisions than other parts of the city. If you live in Falconridge, Taradale, Martindale, Saddle Ridge, or Castleridge, construction could affect your street starting in 2026.

What Could Change

New pathways and protected bike lanes will be built along routes connecting schools, shops, and transit. Some streets may get traffic calming features. Construction begins in 2026, with more routes added as funding becomes available. Property owners near construction sites will be contacted with details.

Key Issues

  • Are the final pathway and bikeway designs appropriate for these communities?
  • How will construction affect nearby residents and property owners?
