New Oak Point Bus Garage to Replace Aging North Garage
Official title: North Garage Replacement Project
Why This Matters
Take the bus in northwest Winnipeg? This new garage means more reliable service and room for bigger, modern buses. It's also a step toward cleaner transit—the facility will support electric buses. Construction might affect traffic near Oak Point Highway until 2027.
What Could Change
The new garage will let Winnipeg Transit expand its fleet of 60-foot articulated buses beyond just Brandon Garage. It'll also have charging infrastructure for 24 battery-electric buses, with room to grow. The old North Garage on Main Street will eventually be decommissioned.
Key Issues
- How will the new garage affect the surrounding community during construction?
- What design features should be included in the new facility?
