New Cameron Community Centre and Library in Northeast Burnaby

Official title: Cameron Community Centre and Library

Closed Community Planning Housing & Communities
Burnaby is replacing its 40-year-old Cameron Community Centre and Library near Lougheed Mall. The new complex will include a pool, gym with two basketball courts, indoor running track, fitness studios, and dedicated spaces for youth and seniors. Public engagement on the design wrapped up in 2021.

Why This Matters

Live in northeast Burnaby? This will be your new community hub. The current rec centre can't keep up with the neighbourhood's growth. The new facility promises a pool, gym, library, and spaces for all ages—all in one place.

What Could Change

The aging Cameron complex will be demolished and replaced with a modern facility. New amenities will include an aquatic centre, two full-sized basketball courts, an indoor running track, and a civic plaza. Construction timelines haven't been specified.

Key Issues

  • What amenities and programs should the new facility prioritize?
  • How should the schematic design meet community needs?

How to Participate

  1. Review the engagement findings report to see what the community said during past consultations.
  2. Check the project page for updates on future engagement opportunities.

What Happened

Two rounds of public engagement were completed. The Summer 2020 survey received 2,369 responses, along with a needs assessment study and four stakeholder sessions. The Fall 2021 engagement on schematic design received 380 survey responses and included two open houses with presentations and Q&A sessions.
