How Should Vancouver Grow Over the Next 30 Years?

Official title: Vancouver Official Development Plan (ODP)

Closed Community Planning Housing & Communities Transportation
Vancouver is creating a new Official Development Plan that will guide where housing, jobs, parks, and schools go as the city grows. This plan builds on years of community input and must be adopted by June 2026 under provincial law. The survey closed October 29, 2025, but you can still speak at a public hearing in early 2026.

Why This Matters

Live in Vancouver? This plan decides what gets built in your neighbourhood for the next 30 years. It affects where new housing goes, how tall buildings can be, and whether there's a park or school nearby. Renters hoping for more affordable options and homeowners concerned about neighbourhood change both have a stake.

What Could Change

The plan will become law, setting rules for where housing, businesses, and services can be built across Vancouver. Some neighbourhoods may see taller buildings near transit stations. New requirements could shape how much green space and community facilities developers must include.

Key Issues

  • Where should new housing be built as Vancouver grows?
  • How should density be distributed across neighbourhoods?
  • How can growth support transit, parks, and community services?

How to Participate

  1. Review the Full Draft Vancouver Official Development Plan to understand the proposed changes. A summary sheet is also available.
  2. Attend the public hearing in early 2026 to share your comments directly with Council. Check this consultation page for updates on the hearing date.

What Happened

The survey was open from October 8 to October 29, 2025 and is now closed. Staff will review and summarize responses and share an engagement summary in the coming months. The final version of the Vancouver ODP will be presented to Council in 2026, with a public hearing opportunity in early 2026.
