Official title: Changing Narrative Fund

Closed Policy & Studies Justice & Rights Technology & Digital
The government asked how to spend $5 million to help Indigenous, racialized, and religious minority creators tell their own stories in media and the arts. The Changing Narratives Fund aims to break down barriers that keep diverse voices out of mainstream culture. This consultation gathered ideas on program design from artists, journalists, and community organizations.

Why This Matters

Ever feel like the stories on TV or in the news don't reflect your community? This fund is meant to change that. It's about giving Indigenous, racialized, and religious minority creators the resources to share their perspectives. If you work in media or the arts, this could open new funding doors.

What Could Change

A new $5 million federal program will launch to fund diverse creators in media and arts. The program design will be shaped by what participants said about overcoming systemic barriers. Funding could go to journalists, artists, and cultural organizations from underrepresented communities.

Key Issues

  • How can the fund help diverse communities tell their own stories?
  • What systemic barriers need to be addressed in media and arts sectors?
  • How should the government promote diverse voices in culture and media?
