How Should Canada Fund Diverse Voices in Media and Arts?
Official title: Changing Narrative Fund
Why This Matters
Ever feel like the stories on TV or in the news don't reflect your community? This fund is meant to change that. It's about giving Indigenous, racialized, and religious minority creators the resources to share their perspectives. If you work in media or the arts, this could open new funding doors.
What Could Change
A new $5 million federal program will launch to fund diverse creators in media and arts. The program design will be shaped by what participants said about overcoming systemic barriers. Funding could go to journalists, artists, and cultural organizations from underrepresented communities.
Key Issues
- How can the fund help diverse communities tell their own stories?
- What systemic barriers need to be addressed in media and arts sectors?
- How should the government promote diverse voices in culture and media?
How to Participate

What Happened
Nearly 500 individuals responded to the online questionnaire. In total, 67 stakeholders participated in roundtable discussions: 39 in arts and culture roundtables, 15 in journalism and media roundtables, and 13 in a combined sector roundtable. The feedback will guide the design and implementation of the new program.
