How Can Statistics Canada Better Serve Canadians with Disabilities?
Official title: Share your input on Statistics Canada’s service to the accessibility and disability community
Why This Matters
Do you use a screen reader? Have trouble with complex data tables? This affects how you access government statistics. About 27% of Canadians have a disability. If you're one of them—or work with people who are—your input shapes whether StatCan's data actually works for everyone.
What Could Change
Statistics Canada could redesign how it publishes data to work better with assistive technologies. Survey forms might become easier to navigate. Hiring practices could change to bring in more employees with disabilities. The 2026-2028 Accessibility Plan will set concrete targets.
Key Issues
- What barriers do people with disabilities face when accessing Statistics Canada's products and services?
- How can data releases be made more inclusive and barrier-free?
- How can surveys and survey data be made more accessible?
- What changes to hiring practices would help remove accessibility barriers?
