Former Kraus Lands Housing Development in Waterloo

Official title: Former Kraus Lands

Open Community Planning Housing & Communities
The City of Waterloo is developing 33 acres of city-owned land on University Avenue East. The plan includes 100 affordable housing units, commercial space, trails, and community amenities. Urban Legend Developments has been selected to build the project, with environmental areas preserved as woodland and wetland.

Why This Matters

Looking for affordable housing in Waterloo? This project adds 100 new affordable units to the market. Live nearby? You'll see new trails, shops, and community spaces. The city is also protecting woodland and wetland areas on the site.

What Could Change

A 33-acre site near 911 University Avenue East will transform from vacant land into a mixed-use development. Council will consider the land disposition on May 5, 2025. If approved, construction could begin after environmental monitoring wraps up.

Key Issues

  • How should the 100 affordable housing units be designed?
  • What community amenities and trail connections should be included?
  • How should the development integrate with preserved woodland and wetland areas?
