How Should Mississauga Attract Businesses to the Lakeview Innovation District?
Official title: Lakeview Innovation District
Mississauga is transforming a former coal power plant into a 177-acre innovation hub called Lakeview Village. The city wants to know what incentives would attract tech, cleantech, and life sciences companies to set up shop there. They're planning 1.5 million square feet of office and lab space that could create 9,000 jobs.
Why This Matters
Looking for a tech job in the GTA? This district could bring 9,000 new positions in research and innovation. Live in Mississauga? More local jobs means shorter commutes and a stronger tax base. The city's betting big on cleantech and life sciences—industries that could shape the region's economy for decades.
What Could Change
The city may offer tax breaks, grants, or other incentives to developers and companies that build in the Innovation District. A Community Improvement Plan would set the rules for these incentives. This could fast-track construction of office towers, labs, and flex spaces on the former power plant site.
