Help Shape Mississauga's First Archaeological Management Plan

Official title: Archaeology Management Plan

Open Community Planning Housing & Communities Indigenous & Northern
Mississauga is creating its first plan to protect archaeological sites across the city. The plan will map areas with archaeological potential and set new rules for development projects. Indigenous communities, including the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, are being consulted throughout the process.

Why This Matters

Planning to build or renovate in Mississauga? This plan could affect what assessments you need before breaking ground. It also determines how the city protects Indigenous heritage sites. If you care about local history or how development happens in your neighbourhood, this is your chance to weigh in.

What Could Change

New mapping will identify areas requiring archaeological assessments before development. The city's Official Plan will be updated with new protocols for protecting archaeological resources. Developers may face additional requirements in areas flagged as having archaeological potential.

Key Issues

  • Which areas should be mapped as having archaeological potential?
  • What protocols should guide development in archaeologically sensitive areas?
  • How should Indigenous communities be engaged in protecting heritage sites?

How to Participate

  1. Review the project introduction presentation and display boards to understand the plan's scope.
  2. Complete the Archaeology Management Plan Survey to share your feedback.
