Help Shape Forest Management in the Mackenzie Region
Official title: Mackenzie Forest Landscape Planning Project
British Columbia is developing a Forest Landscape Plan for the Mackenzie Timber Supply Area—over 6 million hectares of northern BC forest. The plan will guide where logging can happen, how forests are managed, and how to balance old-growth protection with jobs in the forestry sector. The province wants to hear what matters most to you: recreation, wildlife, jobs, or something else.
Why This Matters
Love fishing, hiking, or camping in northern BC? This plan affects where you can go. Work in forestry or a sawmill? It shapes job security in the region. Care about old-growth trees and wildlife habitat? Your input helps set priorities. Even if you don't live in Mackenzie, BC's forests belong to all of us.
What Could Change
The Forest Landscape Plan will set rules for where logging can and can't happen across 6 million hectares. It'll establish protections for old-growth trees, watersheds, and biodiversity. Wildfire risk reduction strategies will be built in. The plan also covers road access for forestry—which affects both industry operations and recreational access.

How to Participate
- Take the online survey to share your forest values and priorities. The survey is open until December 22, 2025.
- If you're in Mackenzie, visit an open house at the Co-op Food Store (403 Mackenzie Blvd) to speak with Ministry of Forests staff in person.
