Help Shape Coquitlam's Streamlined Official Community Plan
Official title: Official Community Plan
Coquitlam is simplifying its 1,000-page Official Community Plan into something people can actually use. The current plan has grown unwieldy over 20 years, with repetitive policies scattered across neighbourhood plans. This update will consolidate everything into a clearer document while adding changes required by new provincial housing laws.
Why This Matters
Live in Coquitlam? This plan shapes where housing gets built, what your neighbourhood looks like, and how the city grows. The streamlined version will make it easier to understand what's allowed on your street. New provincial rules mean more housing near transit and small-scale multi-unit homes in more areas.
What Could Change
The city's 2,100+ policies will be consolidated and rewritten in plain language. Maps will be merged into one citywide set instead of scattered across plans. New transit-oriented development areas and small-scale multi-unit housing zones will be added as required by provincial law. Design guidelines will be streamlined to speed up housing approvals.
Key Issues
- Does the draft streamlined OCP clearly communicate policy direction?
- Is the restructured document easier to navigate and understand?
- Do the consolidated maps accurately reflect land use across the city?
