Help Shape Canada's 2026-2029 Sustainability Strategy

Official title: 2026-2029 Federal Sustainable Development Strategy

Open Policy & Studies Environment & Climate
The federal government is drafting its next three-year sustainability plan and wants your input before it goes to Parliament. This strategy sets goals for everything from climate action to clean water to sustainable communities. Your feedback will help shape the final version that Cabinet considers in November 2026.

Why This Matters

This strategy guides how the federal government tackles climate change, protects nature, and builds sustainable communities for the next three years. Care about clean air, safe drinking water, or green jobs? This is your chance to tell the government what matters most. The final plan goes straight to Parliament, so public input actually shapes policy.

What Could Change

The final strategy will set federal sustainability targets for 2026-2029. These could include new emissions reduction goals, biodiversity protection measures, and sustainable procurement rules for government operations. Federal departments will be required to report progress against these targets.

Key Issues

  • What sustainability priorities should the federal government focus on for 2026-2029?
  • How can the strategy better address climate action and environmental protection?
  • What feedback do you have on the draft strategy chapters?
