Help Shape Alberta's New Disability Assistance Program
Official title: Alberta Disability Assistance Program engagement
Why This Matters
Living with a disability in Alberta? This could change how you access income support. Right now, AISH is one-size-fits-all. ADAP aims to let you work without losing your benefits. If you're a caregiver or advocate, this affects the people you support too.
What Could Change
A new program called ADAP would run alongside AISH, offering more flexibility for people who want to work. Eligibility rules, income exemptions, and employment expectations could all be redesigned. The government says it wants supports tailored to individual needs rather than a blanket approach.
Key Issues
- Who should be eligible for the new ADAP program?
- How should benefits, income exemptions, and asset limits be structured?
- What employment services and expectations should apply to ADAP clients?
- How should current AISH clients transition to the new program?
How to Participate
- Read the ADAP Discussion Guide to understand the proposed changes. A large print version is also available.
- Visit the ADAP program page for more details about the new program.

What Happened
The government received feedback through an online survey (August 13 to September 14, 2025), two telephone town halls (September 4-5, 2025), and written submissions (through September 12, 2025). Results are currently under review and will help shape the final ADAP program design.
