Should Bechtel Park Get More Pickleball Courts or Keep Tennis?

Official title: Bechtel Park courts renewal

Open Community Planning Housing & Communities
The City of Waterloo is upgrading the courts at Bechtel Park. Based on earlier resident feedback, they're planning to replace four multi-use courts with three dedicated tennis courts and four pickleball courts. New fencing, gates, and nets are also coming.

Why This Matters

Play tennis or pickleball at Bechtel Park? This affects your game time. The new layout means dedicated courts for each sport—no more sharing. Construction starts spring 2026, so courts will be closed for a while.

What Could Change

Four shared courts become seven dedicated ones: three for tennis, four for pickleball. New infrastructure includes fencing, gates, and nets. Courts should be ready by summer 2026.

Key Issues

  • Is the proposed mix of three tennis and four pickleball courts right for the community?
  • What features matter most for the new court layout?
