Help Design the New Big Marlborough Park in Northeast Calgary

Official title: Big Marlborough Park Master Plan

Open Community Planning Housing & Communities
Calgary is redesigning Big Marlborough Park, a 1970s regional park in the northeast that's due for a major refresh. The city has already gathered feedback and created a preferred design. Now they're presenting the master plan and want final input before construction begins.

Why This Matters

Live in northeast Calgary? This park serves Marlborough, Marlborough Park, and Abbeydale communities. Kids at nearby schools use it for outdoor learning. If you toboggan, skate, play disc golf, or just want a shady spot to gather, this redesign affects your neighbourhood.

What Could Change

Seven baseball diamonds will shrink to two. A new skatepark and pump track will be added. The disc golf course expands from 9 to 12 holes. New 3-on-3 and full basketball courts, a multi-use cricket/soccer field, and a community hub are planned. Parking lots get automated gates and better lighting.

Key Issues

  • Does the preferred park design balance active recreation (sports fields, skatepark) with passive spaces (gathering areas, nature)?
  • Are the proposed safety improvements (relocated pathways, better lighting, automated gates) adequate?
  • Is reducing baseball diamonds from seven to two the right trade-off for new amenities?
