Help Design Cambridge's New Recreation Complex

Official title: Cambridge Recreation Complex Design

Closed Community Planning Health & Safety Housing & Communities
Cambridge is building a major new recreation hub in the south end of the city. The complex will include a swimming pool, gymnasiums, a walking track, library branch, and park amenities. The city ran a series of polls to understand what residents want most from the facility.

Why This Matters

Live in south Cambridge? This will be your neighbourhood recreation hub. Whether you swim, use the gym, or just want a nice park for your kids, this project shapes what's available to you for decades.

What Could Change

The 32.5-acre site will become a joint-use campus with schools and recreation facilities. Design decisions about pool size, gym features, and park amenities will be finalized based on community input. Construction will serve a rapidly developing area.

Key Issues

  • What aquatic features should the pool complex include?
  • What gymnasium and fitness activities should be prioritized?
  • What outdoor park amenities are most valuable to residents?
  • What library features would encourage community use?

How to Participate

  1. Review the poll results (PDF) to see what other residents said during the engagement period.
  2. Visit the Cambridge Recreation Complex project page for updates on the project.

What Happened

The city conducted nine quick polls between late 2022 and mid-March 2023, gathering community input on topics including aquatic spaces, gymnasium activities, fitness classes, library features, outdoor amenities, and transportation to the complex. All polls have now concluded.
