Help Design Calgary's New Parkdale Home for Adults with Developmental Disabilities
Official title: Parkdale Home stakeholder engagement
Alberta is building a new 24-unit home in Calgary's Parkdale neighbourhood for adults with developmental disabilities who need round-the-clock support. The government wants feedback from the disability community on the building design and how services will be delivered. Construction is already underway at 1930 Veteran's Way NW.
Why This Matters
Do you have a family member with a developmental disability? This home could be their future residence. The design choices made now will shape daily life for 24 residents—from room layouts to common spaces to how staff provide care.
What Could Change
The new two-storey building will replace the old Parkmont Achievement Centre. Residents will receive 24/7 wrap-around supports including personal care, healthcare, recreation, and cultural programming. Design decisions are still being finalized based on community input.
Key Issues
- How should the building be designed to meet residents' needs?
- What service delivery model will best support residents with high needs?
