East Calgary International Avenue Communities Local Area Plan
Official title: Greater Forest Lawn Communities Local Area Planning
Why This Matters
Live in east Calgary? This plan shapes what gets built in your neighbourhood for the next 30 years. It affects housing options, transit improvements, and park upgrades. Even if you don't live there, it's a model for how Calgary plans established communities.
What Could Change
The plan is now approved and in effect. It allows more housing diversity on residential lots, including rowhouses and townhouses. Larger multi-residential buildings are concentrated near transit stations and major roads like 36 Street SE. The International Avenue Area Redevelopment Plan will be rescinded once this plan fully takes over.
Key Issues
- Where should higher-density housing be located in east Calgary communities?
- How can parks, open spaces, and recreation facilities be improved?
- How should the area support diverse housing options for all income levels and ages?
- What transportation and mobility improvements are needed?
How to Participate
