Did Manitoba's Planning Law Changes Actually Work?
Official title: Planning Legislation Review Survey
Manitoba changed its planning and development laws between 2018 and 2023. The changes were supposed to speed up approvals, standardize timelines, and create a common appeal process. Now the government wants to know: did it work? They're asking for feedback on whether these reforms actually improved things.
Why This Matters
Building a home? Opening a business? These laws affect how long you wait for permits. If you've dealt with zoning applications, conditional use permits, or appeals to the Municipal Board, your experience matters. The government wants to know if the system is actually faster and fairer now.
What Could Change
Based on feedback, Manitoba may adjust service standard timelines for planning applications. Appeal processes through the Municipal Board could be modified. Zoning bylaw requirements might change. The Capital Planning Region rules could be updated.
Key Issues
- Are the new service standards for planning applications working?
- Is the Manitoba Municipal Board appeal process effective?
- Are zoning bylaw changes achieving their goals?
