Multi-Use Pathway on Whispering Pines Reserve - Phase 2

Official title: Westsyde Road Multi-Use Pathway: Phase 2

Closed Environmental Assessment Indigenous & Northern Transportation
The Whispering Pines First Nation is building a 470-metre pathway for walking and cycling on their reserve near Kamloops. This second phase connects the community hall, rodeo grounds, and residential areas. The project involves some excavation and tree clearing but no work near water.

Why This Matters

This project improves safe walking and cycling options for residents of Whispering Pines I.R. #4. If you live on or near the reserve, you'll have better access to community facilities without needing a car.

What Could Change

Once approved, construction can proceed on the pathway. About 135 square metres will be excavated for a ramp, and trees will be cleared along the 470-metre route.

Key Issues

  • Should the pathway construction proceed given the required land clearing?
  • Are there environmental concerns with the excavation work on reserve land?
