Dredging and Shore Protection at Batchawana Small Craft Harbour
Official title: Batchawana Small Craft Harbour Dredging and Shore Protection
Fisheries and Oceans Canada wants to dredge about 450 cubic metres of material from Batchawana harbour in Ontario to keep it deep enough for boats. They'll also add 45 tonnes of stone along the east side of the wharf to protect the shoreline.
Why This Matters
If you fish or boat out of Batchawana harbour, this project keeps the water deep enough for your vessel. Local commercial fishers depend on this harbour staying accessible.
What Could Change
The harbour will be dredged and new stone protection installed along the wharf. Dredged material will be spread on-site rather than removed. Work will happen above the high water mark where possible.
Key Issues
- Is the proposed dredging and shore protection appropriate for this site?
- Are there environmental concerns with spreading dredged material on-site?
