North Bay Small Craft Harbour Dock and Boat Ramp Rehabilitation

Official title: North Bay Small Craft Harbour Rehabilitation

Closed Environmental Assessment Environment & Climate Transportation
Fisheries and Oceans Canada plans to repair the service dock and boat launch ramp at North Bay's small craft harbour on Lake Nipissing. The work involves encasing aging steel walls in new concrete panels, reinstalling the launch ramp slightly north of its current location, and adding rock protection along the base. The harbour serves recreational boaters with public lake access and temporary docking.

Why This Matters

Use the North Bay boat launch on Lake Nipissing? This project will temporarily disrupt access while repairs are underway. Once complete, the dock and ramp should be safer and more durable for recreational boaters.

What Could Change

The service dock and launch ramp will get new concrete encasement over the existing steel walls. The boat ramp will shift about half a metre north. Rock protection will be added along the wall base. A turbidity curtain will protect water quality during construction.

Key Issues

  • Will the rehabilitation work adequately protect water quality in Lake Nipissing?
  • How will construction impact recreational boaters' access to the harbour?
